The Federal Government has announced a five-year suspension of the Bilateral Education Scholarship Programme to improve student development and well-being.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa made this known during the weekend while speaking after an extensive review of academic programmes abroad,
Dr. Alausa stated that every course previously available through overseas scholarships was now accessible and often better enhanced within Nigerian institutions.
Clarifying on the decision, the Minister emphasized that while the moratorium encouraged local education, it did not prevent parents from privately sponsoring their children to study overseas.
He reassured citizens that the moratorium does not affect other vital scholarship programmes.
These include the Nigerian Scholarship for students in public universities and polytechnics, the Education Bursary Awards for students pursuing Education degrees, and the Presidential NYSC Ex-Corps Scholarship
