Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed one place in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, now sitting at 43rd in the world.
The team ended 2024 in 44th place after a series of underwhelming performances during the international break, late last year.
However, a 2-0 win against Rwanda in Kigali and a 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March helped boost their ranking slightly.
Among African nations, Nigeria is now ranked sixth, trailing Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and Algeria.
On the global stage, Argentina retained the number one spot, followed by Spain in second and France in third. England and Brazil complete the top five in fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Elsewhere, Japan and IR Iran held onto their 15th and 18th positions, respectively, after securing World Cup qualification in the recent international window.
Meanwhile, New Zealand moved up three places to 86th following their qualification for the expanded 48-team tournament with a victory over New Caledonia.
