The Academic Staff Union of Universities, has declared to initiate a total strike due to the government’s failure to honour agreements made.

While addressing on  Friday in Benue State, the Chairman of ASUU-Nsukka Zone, Comrade Raphael Amokaha reading from a text titled “Averting a Crisis” emphasied  concern about individuals exploiting the government through IPPIS and disregarding FEC’s directive to remove ASUU from the platform.

He added that they’re  frustrated about the withheld salaries, unpaid allowances, and dissolved university councils criticizing; the introduction of GIFMIS over UTAS.

The Union further reminded the government of the neglected 2009 agreement and called for adequate funding, aligning with UNESCO’s recommendation of allocating 26 percent of annual budgets to education since 1992.
