The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, says crude oil production is nearing 1.7 million barrels per day.

This was disclosed by the Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mele Kyari, while addressing stakeholders at an engagement between the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists and the NNPCL in Lagos.

According to him, 1.7 million barrels per day was a boost from 1.28 million barrels reported in April.

He blamed previously recorded drops in production on oil theft and vandalism; stressing the need to fight insecurity in the oil and gas sector to increase production.

Kyari’s position comes on the backdrop of the latest Monthly Oil Market Report (MOMR) by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries for May 2024 – which puts Nigeria’s crude oil production at 1.2 million barrels per day

The report quoted direct sources as responsible for its production statistics.

According to the report, oil production had hovered between 1.2 and 1.3 million barrels per day – since 2023.
