The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has assured citizens that the Federal government was not considering any foreign military base to counter insurgence and other crimes in the country.

Disclosing this on Monday in Abuja, the Minister noted that the Federal government was aware of speculations in some quarters about discussions between the Federal Government of Nigeria and some foreign countries on a potential deal to have foreign military bases sited in the country and urged the public to disregard such reports.

He insisted that the Federal Government was not in any such discussion with any foreign country nor has it received any requests for the establishment of any foreign military base in Nigeria.

The Minister said while government already enjoys foreign cooperation in tackling ongoing security challenges, the present administration remains committed to deepening partnerships, with the ultimate goal of achieving the national security objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
