Concerned about worsening power supply across the country, the federal government has threatened to query non-performing power distribution companies.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who summoned the Chief Executives of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), over the weekend, said non- performance by DISCOs could attract revocation of license.

In the statement issued by his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, it was disclosed plans to meet with the discos next week, even as the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Ahmed Abdulazeez, has been summoned over the deteriorating power situation nationwide

According to him, findings revealed that some distribution companies were deliberately not taking up power supply from TCN while some power lines were also damaged by vandals in Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt and Ibadan

He particularly singled out AEDC and IBEDC for having the worse power distribution in their areas of operation despite improved supply from TCN.

Tunji said despite the shortage of gas, the ministry had been putting pressure on the Generating Companies (GENCOs) to improve performance and generation had been ramped up to over 4000MW in recent days.
