The Department of State Services (DSS) has established a new Directorate of Public Relations and Strategic Communications (DPRSC) to foster democratic governance, transparency and accountability.

Consequently, it has appointed Peter Nnochirionye Afunanya, the erstwhile Public Relations Officer, to head the Directorate as the supervising Director and also be in charge of the Service’s public communications.

The Service has commended its Director General, Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi for the initiative to undertake the expansion and particularly appointing Mr. Afunanya to pilot the Directorate.

Mr. Afunanya comes to his new role with over 20 years vast experience in Intelligence analysis, threat assessment, security administration, counterterrorism, among others.

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James Lalu, has threatened to seal off public facilities and organisations that do not comply with the commission’s accessibility laws.

He said the law mandates organisations and other business premises to make their facilities accessible to persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

The NCPWD boss disclosed this today when he received the Director-General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Professor Fatima Waziri-Azi, in Abuja, the nation’s capital. Mr. Lalu added that NAPTIP is a critical partner towards achieving Nigeria’s desire for equal opportunities for the disabled community in the country.

He also commended the commitment of the NAPTIP boss towards providing the relevant laws that ensure access to justice for the disabled community.
