The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kano has declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the Kano governorship election.
The three-man panel led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan gave the final judgement yesterday after hearing the petitions.
The court cancelled some votes recorded by the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, candidate and Kano Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, stating that the affected ballot papers were not stamped or signed and therefore the votes were invalid.
It would be recalled that Governor Yusuf was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the poll in March.
The court ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return, which INEC presented to Governor Yusuf and directed a certificate of return to be issued to Mr. Gawuna.
The ruling comes six months after the APC candidate conceded defeat to Governor Yusuf.
