The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) says it will partner with the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) to ensure the protection of students’ data in their institutions.

This was disclosed yesterday in a statement signed by the Head, Media Unit of NDPC, Mr. Itunu Dosekun during a courtesy visit by the Secretary General of CVCNU, Professor Yakubu Ochefu, to the National Commissioner of NDPC Dr. Vincent Olatunji, in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Professor Ochefu said that they needed capacity building for vice-chancellors and data officers in universities, adding that it is necessary to enlighten their members on data protection according to the requirements of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.

He noted that the move will enable VCs to develop a template in order to comply with the NDPA standards.

It is worthwhile to note that a Memorandum of Understanding between the NDPC and CVCNU to drive the collaboration would be signed at a later date.
