President Bola Tinubu has taken significant steps to address concerns surrounding the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and related activities by appointing a special investigator, Jim Osayande, for this purpose.
In a letter addressed to Obazee, the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), President Tinubu officially communicated this decision.

The appointment of Jim Osayande as a Special Investigator aligns with the core objective laid out in Section 15 (subsection 5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, emphasizing the administration’s ongoing commitment to combat corruption. The primary focus of Osayande’s investigation will be on the CBN and its associated entities.

The appointment is effective immediately, and Mr. Osayande will report directly to the President’s office. Concurrently, President Tinubu has also shared a copy of his order suspending Godwin Emefiele, the apex bank’s governor, with Obazee.

It is noteworthy that the development coincides with the ongoing trial of the suspended CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele.

By initiating this investigation and suspension, President Tinubu’s administration demonstrates its dedication to upholding transparency and accountability within the country’s financial institutions. The appointment of a special investigator underscores the government’s resolve to tackle corruption at all levels and ensure the responsible functioning of critical financial entities like the CBN.
