The Senate has passed the second reading of a bill seeking to amend the National Assembly Service Pension Board Act, 2023.
Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central) presented the lead debate,
He explained that the amendment aims to revert pensioners to the contributory pension scheme and restructure the Board’s membership.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the bill and called for a public hearing, urging NASS retirees to meet him privately ahead of the session to discuss their concerns.
The bill also proposed the establishment of a gratuity payment template and a dedicated pension fund, in line with federal policy.
