The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has embarked on a trip to China to advance discussions on a major water supply project aimed at improving access to clean water in FCT satellite towns, including Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje.
This trip follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent approval of ₦50 billion for expanding potable water infrastructure in underserved FCT areas.
According to Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, the minister is currently in Dubai and will proceed to China for official talks with the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group.
The visit is part of ongoing efforts to implement agreements reached during President Tinubu’s September 2024 state visit to China.
These agreements, captured in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), involve Chinese construction giants CGCOC and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), and focus on improving water and electricity services in the FCT.
The president earlier emphasized that water is a necessity, not a luxury, and pledged to restore public confidence through people-centered development.
Wike is expected to return to Nigeria after the high-level meetings next week.
