Nigeria and the United States have opened fresh diplomatic channels aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
The meeting, which marked the first formal diplomatic engagement between the Federal government and the new U.S. administration of President Donald Trump, featured Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau.
In a statement released after the engagement during the weekend, the Minister expressed Nigeria’s willingness to collaborate with the new American leadership to advance mutual interests across key sectors such as energy, legal migration, security, and trade
On migration, he highlighted the nation’s commitment to promoting structured and beneficial emigration, citing the Technical Aide Corps (TAC) as a model that deployed skilled Nigerian professionals abroad to support development efforts in partner countries.
Tuggar emphasized the need for continuous dialogue, partnership on global peace and security, and support for democratic governance across the region.
Both officials pledged to sustain the momentum of engagement, promising to work closely on addressing shared challenges while unlocking new opportunities for growth
