The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has announced Nigeria’s efforts to meet global demands for lasting social development and justice.

‎He made the declaration at the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on the topic Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice

‎Mr. Kalu cited the nation’s key legislative achievements in previous years, stating that they attest to Nigeria’s commitment to realizing its objectives.

‎He added that another major legislative measure was the new minimum wage bill, which, according to him, not only safeguards the rights of workers but also lays the foundation for a more dynamic and productive economy.

‎The Deputy Speaker further stated that the parliament had initiated a robust oversight function to ensure compliance, transparency, and accountability.

‎However, he expressed worry that Africa was burdened by a huge debt profile that strained its public finances, making it difficult to realize social development.
