The Federal Government has not yet implemented direct allocation to Local Government Areas (LGAs) due to ongoing procedural steps
This was revealed by Hon. Odunayo Alegbere, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
He explained that LGAs have been directed to open accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to facilitate the process, which is still underway.
Alegbere praised the government’s efforts, especially the Supreme Court’s ruling on financial autonomy for LGAs, noting that direct allocation will help reduce poverty by enabling LGAs to manage their own finances.
He emphasized that progress is being made toward full financial autonomy and reaffirmed ALGON’s support for the government’s actions to strengthen local governance.
He also dismissed internal disputes about ALGON’s leadership, affirming its clear structure.
