The Bauchi State Government has expressed surprise and concern over the arrest of its Accountant General, Sirajo Jaja, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The arrest took place while Jaja was attending an official Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting, prompting the government to question the timing and intentions of the EFCC.
Bauchi’s Special Adviser, Mukhtar Gidado, pointed out that the state’s anti-corruption agency was already investigating the matter, leading to the removal of several officials.
The Bauchi government raised concerns about the sensational nature of the arrest, suggesting it appeared more like a political move than a legitimate anti-corruption effort.
They emphasized that the arrested official would have willingly cooperated with the EFCC if properly invited.
They called for fairness, due process, and reiterated their commitment to transparency and good governance.
