Manchester United have advanced to the Europa League quarter-finals after securing a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad at Old Trafford, which sealed a 5-2 aggregate victory.

Bruno Fernandes led the charge with a hat-trick, scoring two penalties and a late goal, while Diogo Dalot added a stoppage-time goal.

Real Sociedad had taken an early lead through a Mikel Oyarzabal penalty, but Fernandes quickly equalized with a penalty of his own.

Another penalty by Fernandes early in the second half gave United the lead before Sociedad’s Jon Aramburu was sent off. Fernandes completed his hat-trick, and Dalot sealed the win.

The match comes during a turbulent week for Manchester United, with protests against the club’s owners and financial concerns raised by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Despite the off-field issues, Fernandes stepped up to deliver a crucial performance, securing United’s spot in the next round, where they will face Lyon.
