The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed 506 Lassa fever cases out of 2,492 suspected cases, with 95 deaths.

This was revealed by the organisation on Wednesday. The situation report on the hemorrhagic fever for week eight also showed that the disease has spread to 12 states and 70 local government areas, with a Case Fatality Ratio (CFR) of 18.8 per cent.

The confirmed cases were reported in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo (88 cases), Taraba, Kogi, and Gombe, among others.
The NCDC report noted that among the confirmed cases, Ondo accounted for 32 per cent, Bauchi 24 per cent, and Edo 17per cent.

It further revealed that the predominant age group affected is 21–30 years and noted that the number of suspected cases has decreased compared to the same period in 2024.

Lassa fever, which spreads mainly during the dry season in Nigeria, is a zoonotic, acute viral illness transmitted by the Mastomys rat, a common African rodent species.
