Aviation workers’ unions have announced plans to stage a peaceful protest on September 18, 2024.
The General Secretary of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, Ocheme Aba, and the Deputy General Secretary of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Frances Akinjole, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
The protest is in response to the Federal Government’s failure to reverse the 50% deduction policy from the internally generated revenues of agencies in the aviation sector.
According to the statement, these agencies are cost-recovery, not profit-making organizations, and cannot survive on half of their incomes.
The TSA policy, initially introduced with a 25% deduction from revenue-generating agencies, was increased to 50% by the current administration in January 2024.
