Federal Government Approves 50% Increase in Feeding Allowance for Inmates Amid Rising Food Costs | Search Media

The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent upward review of the feeding allowance for inmates in Nigeria’s Custodial Centres

Making the announcement at a press briefing in Abuja as part of it’s Strategic Communications Policy, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Correctional Service,, Umar Abubakar, said the increment was a result of the rising cost of food.

He described a recent viral video purportedly showing inmates at a correctional centre in Calabar, Cross River State, complaining about inadequate feeding – as a departure from the true representation of Nigeria Correctional Service

He maintained that since the change of the agency’s name, significant progress had been made in reforming inmates

He also disclosed that over 1,000 inmates were currently pursuing university degrees, while six are studying for PhD.
