The Joint Association of Medical and Health Workers Union in Yobe State has suspended its strike action after reaching an agreement with the state government.
The workers had gone on strike on Friday morning to demand the implementation of hazard allowances for their members, which had been approved in 2019 but were only being received by a few unions.
The Chairman of the Medical and Health Workers Union in the state, Satomi Hikama, disclosed that an agreement was signed with the Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, after meeting with the union’s leadership to ensure the payment of the allowances by September 2024.
Meanwhile, Governor Mai Mala Buni, in a statement signed by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, urged the workers to resume work, assuring them that the hazard allowances would be paid by September 2024.
Unions that participated in the strike action include the Association of Resident Doctors, the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, the National Association of Nigerian Nurses, the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria, and others.
