“NERC Grants Six States Authority to Regulate Their Electricity Markets, Expands Local Oversight | Search Media

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has authorised six additional states to regulate their electricity markets.

According to a statement by the regulator on Wednesday, the states had set up electricity regulatory agencies, and would control the electricity market in their respective states.

The authorised states are Enugu, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, and Oyo.

Last week, the NERC had transferred functions to the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ESERC).

NERC said the move complied with the amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended).

However, the commission still retained the role of a central regulator with regulatory oversight on inter-state and international generation, transmission, supply, trading and system operations.
