The Federal Government has met with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, convened the closed door meeting on Wednesday, days after university lecturers had threatened to embark on a nationwide strike over the alleged Federal Government’s failure to meet its demands.

Mamman emphasized the government’s desire to deepen security in the education system, assuring that it would continue to ensure that students remained on campus.

The core of the meeting which was initially scheduled for Monday was essentially to prevent another strike in the academic sector and improve security in universities.

In attendance were representatives from ASUU led by its President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, past presidents of ASUU led by the immediate past president, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, among others.
