Two police officers have reportedly died in active duty while trying to fend off aggrieved members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, popularly known as the Shi’ites in the Wuse area of the Nation’s Capital, Abuja
Spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the clash which took place on Sunday, admitted three other persons remained unconscious as at press time
She described the attack as unprovoked and accused the group of destroying three police patrol vehicles.
According to her, the IMN members attacked some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the FCT command at Wuse Junction with machetes, improvised explosive devices and knives.
Reacting to the incident, FCT Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh, condemned the attack and disclosed that several arrests have been made.
