Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the recent Supreme Court judgement giving full financial autonomy to local government (LG) councils would enhance the nation’s universal basic education system.

The vice president stated this on Thursday at the public presentation of a book titled ‘Navigating the Politics of Universal Education Policies in Nigeria’, written by former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Modupe Adelabu, held in Abuja.

Shettima said the local governments were directly responsible for providing primary education and would address the financial limitations of the government’s educational agenda.

The Vice President who warned against abuse of LG autonomy also assured citizens that the ongoing reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu would address inadequacies hindering universal education in the country.
