The Kano State Police Command says it has transferred 76 suspects, including a foreign national, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja – in connection with the waving of Russian flags during the recent protest against bad governance.
Disclosing this to Newsmen on Monday, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Salman Garba, said the transfer of the suspects was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to all commands and formations.
The commissioner also revealed that 150 individuals have been arrested and are being prosecuted for violating the curfew imposed by the Kano State government during the protests.
He added that six suspects were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the destruction, arson, and looting of the Kano Printing Press.
In a related development, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf announced on Monday, the indefinite suspension of the curfew imposed in the state following the violence that greeted the #EndbadGovernance protests.
The suspension was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Information, Halilu Baba Dantiye, who noted that the decision was taken after assessing the security situation in the state.
The curfew had been enforced in response to the violent protests that resulted in the looting and destruction of public and private property across Kano.
