The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the stagnation of workers long overdue for promotion stagnation in the Federal Civil Service from 2013 to 2023.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Agric Colleges and Institutions, Salman Idris, on Wednesday.

Idris decried the incessant stagnation in promotions across Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, which he claimed had resulted in loss of service delivery, low levels of productivity and performance – amongst others

According to him, the civil service remained the engine room of the government, hence, the need for a holistic reform that would promote global best practices.

The House consequently ruled that the Committee on Public Sector and Institutional Reforms probe the cause of promotion stagnation in the Federal Civil Service.

The committee was further mandated to report back to the House within four weeks.
