ASUU Urges President Tinubu to Implement Renegotiated 2009 Agreement | Search Media

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has once again called on President Bola Tinubu to sign and implement the renegotiated 2009 agreement between the body and the Federal Government – in line with the collective bargaining principles contained in the International Labour Organization Convention.

The call was made on Friday by the Coordinator of the Lagos zone of the Union, Professor Adelaja Odukoya, while addressing the press at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye in Ogun State.

He identified issues requiring urgent attention of the Federal Government as poor funding and proliferation of state and federal universities, non-release of monthly subventions, irregular payment of staff salaries, decayed and dilapidated infrastructure, non-payment of check-off and other third party deductions among others

The zonal coordinator also regretted that visitors of federal and state universities have turned the establishment of universities to constituency projects.

He urged the President to heed the appeal and act accordingly in order to prevent another round of industrial action and save public varsities from imminent collapse.

Professor Odukoya said the Union was seeking to interface with the President on how to resolve all the highlighted issues
