The Federal Government said it is working on establishing an electricity offences tribunal to combat cases of power-theft in the country.

Disclosing this at a briefing in Abuja, the Managing Director, Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Aliyu Tahir, said the tribunal would have an in-built appeal system for a fast handling of electricity-related offences.

He added that it would vest NEMSA’s in-house counsel with powers to prosecute electricity offences.

Providing further explanation about the tribunal, Tahir said when implemented, the initiative would adequately check electricity theft

The NEMSA boss revealed that the agency had already started interfacing with the National Assembly on the proposal
