A total of 197 Nigerian Armed Forces personnel have been sent to Gambia for peacekeeping duties.

The deployment was announced on Friday by Major General Boniface Sinjen, the Chief of Operations of the Nigerian Army, in Jaji, Kaduna State.

According to reports, the troops started their Pre-Deployment Training (PDT) on 4th of May  2024, at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State.

Major General Boniface highlighted that this training aligns with the commitment of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, to provide high-quality peacekeepers to support global peace and security efforts.

He also emphasized the importance of respecting human rights while performing their peacekeeping duties in Gambia.
