Benin’s Squirrels Defeat Nigeria for the First Time, Jeopardizing Super Eagles’ World Cup Hopes | Search Media

The squirrels of Benin Republic have recorded their first ever victory over Nigeria.

They beat the Eagles 2-1 on Monday in Cote D’Ivore leaving Nigeria’s World Cup qualification on a knife’s edge

Nigeria have only a miserable three points from four World Cup qualifiers and are at the risk of missing the next football tournament.

The Super Eagles came into the game needing a win after drawing South Africa some days back.

The game had started on a good note for the Eagles who took the lead after 25 minutes courtesy of Raphael Onyedika

However, Benìn coached by a former Nigerian gaffer Gernot Rohr levelled proceedings in the 37th minute from Jodei Dossou after a defensive error from the Super Eagles.

They compounded Nigeria’s misery just before the halftime whistle with another goal scored by Steve Mounie.

Nigeria pushed for an equalizer in the second half but to no avail.
