President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s Special Envoy on Climate Action, Ajuri Ngelale to serve as Chief diplomat and lead representative on all climate-related engagements and negotiations while supervising the Energy Transition Office.

President Tinubu issued the directive on Sunday in a statement signed by the Director Information Office of the Secretary to the government of the federation, Segun Imohiosen.

He directed that the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, SPEC, is to be the lead negotiator on climate-related matters on behalf of the Nigerian Government reporting directly to the President.

The statement also said the President will inaugurate the Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions in July

Further stating the terms of reference for SPEC, the envoy is to supervise all interface between the Secretariat of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) and the NCCC Supervising Council, which is chaired by the President.
