Organised Labour says one of the reasons it rejected the N48,000 proposed by the Federal Government last week was because there was no explanation as to how it arrived at the figure

The Vice President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr Etim Okon, who disclosed this on Monday, confirmed that labour will attend another round of negotiations with the Tripartite Committee on the Minimum Wage later today

Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the TUC had walked out from a similar meeting last week – following its displeasure over the proposed new national minimum wage.

According to Okon, government’s failure to provide any substantiated data to support its offer worsened the situation, adding that lack of transparency and good faith undermined the credibility of the negotiation process.

He said the proposal fell significantly short of meeting the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian worker and insisted on the N615,000 national minimum wage proposed by Organized Labor
