The House of Representative Committee on Interior says it will investigate irregularities in the issuance of international passports as well as utilisation of resident permits in the country

Chairman, House Committee on Interior, Ahmed Abdullahi, made this known during an interactive session with management staff of IRIS smart technology and Continental Transfer Technique.

The chairman who was represented by the Vice Chairman of the committee, Hon. Ganiyu Adele, said the aim of the probe was to identify any shortcomings or irregularities and implement necessary reforms to improve the system.

He noted that the investigation was crucial for upholding the integrity of immigration procedures and ensuring that citizens and residents receive fair and timely treatment.

The chairman also said the committee would investigate the expatriate quota as part of its statutory mandate.

He expressed worry that no individual or entity could give accurate number of expatriates residing in nigeria.

The committee had in a letter to the Managing Directors of companies under its purview requested the true agreement, terms of MOUs or contract signed with the Federal Government with a view to improving the services that conforms with international best practices.

Members of the committee however frowned at the lack of respect for parliament by managing directors who failed to show up at the hearing.

They warned that such actions would not be tolerated going forward.
