The upper chamber of the National Assembly has condemned the gruesome murder of 16 Army personnel attached to ‘Operation Delta Safe’ in Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Reacting to the killing of the army personnel during a peace mission between two warring communities on Sunday, the Senate said the culprits must be made to face the full consequences of their actions.
In the statement signed by the chairman, Senate Committee on Nigerian Army, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, the Senate noted that the sacrifices made by the Commanding Officer and three other senior officers as well as 12 soldiers during the distressing incident would be forever remembered.
The statement extended the deepest condolences of the lawmakers to the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army and officers and men of Operation Delta Safe – over the tragic loss of the officers
The officers are believed to have come under attack by some youths during a peace mission to Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State on Thursday
