UK and Ireland Left Unopposed to Host Euro 2028 as Turkey Withdraw. | Search Media

Turkey has officially withdrawn their bid to host Euro 2028, leaving the joint UK and Ireland bid to stage the tournament unopposed.

Subject to approval by UEFA, the successful bid is expected to be confirmed at the Executive Committee meeting taking place on the 10th of October in Nyon.

Turkey will instead focus solely on its joint bid with Italy to host Euro 2032, having planned to bid for both tournaments.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has said the “outcome should be a replay” after the VAR controversy in Tottenham’s victory over his Liverpool side in the Premier League.

The Reds were reduced to 10 men with the scoreline goalless when forward Luis Diaz appeared to have given the visitors the lead, but saw the goal overturned for offside.

Elsewhere, Reece James has been handed a one-match ban and fined 90,000 pounds for using abusive words towards a match official.

The incident, which happened in the tunnel, came following Chelsea’s 1-nil defeat to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in September.

James reportedly approached referee Jarred Gillett after the game, which saw Malo Gusto, sent off in the 58th minute before Ollie Watkins struck the decisive goal.
