The Federal University of Technology, Minna has held its 105th inaugural lecture themed, Sustainability in Concrete Practice: imperative Panacea for resource conservation.
The lecture, which was delivered by Professor Abdullahi Muhammad, held at the 1000-seater capacity auditorium, Gidan Kwano campus.
Professor Muhammad who also doubles as the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Designate, stated that sustainable construction methods would conserve earth resources and mitigate environmental degradation.
The Professor of Civil engineering revealed that producing concrete from solid waste possess superior structural characteristics than traditional concrete mixture.
He added that Graphical User Interface software proves to be more efficient in determining mix ratio for concrete adding that this software help in minimizing waste.
While calling for caution on the adverse effect of concrete production on the environment, Professor Muhammad urged contractors to optimise use of construction materials, adding that the use of alternative materials in concrete production should be promoted.
