Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has inaugurated a 13-man Board of Trustees tasked with the Endowment Fund at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai.
While Inaugurating the board at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Minna, the Niger State Capital, Governor Sani- Bello charged members to explore all avenues to turn the university into an education centre renowned for excellence in the country.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Governor, Mrs Mary-Noel Berje, the Governor said board members were carefully selected based on their track records
He pointed out that the Board’s terms of reference include the rendering of advice that will lead to the growth and development of the university.
The Governor mandated the board to operate within the ambits of the ethics of IBBU Lapai or other applicable laws of the state.
Among other duties, the board is expected to serve as advisory to the visitor on endowment matters at IBB Lapai and interface with the governing council concerning the management of the Institution.
In his remark, the Chairman of the board and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Retired) assured the Governor of member’s resolve to serve and contribute their quota to the development of the university.
General Abubakar who acknowledged the present financial challenges confronting the University, also implored the Governor to make some funds available for the success of the Board’s assignment.
He commended those who have been supporting the growth of the University and appealed to the Local Government Councils to do more.
Other members of the Board are; Engineer Inuwa Musa Kuta who was appointed as Vice Chairman (I), Dr Suleyman Ndanusa, Vice Chairman (II), Hajiya Aisha Ndanusa Ahmed, the representative of the donor groups and Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, Vice Chancellor IBBU Lapai.
The Permanent secretaries of the Ministries of Finance, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology; and Local Government Affairs are also statutory members of the Board
Alhaji Musa Ango Abdullahi is the Board’s Congregation Representative, while Professor Ibrahim Hassan represents the Senate.
Dr Idris Abu represents the University’s Alumni of the Board which has Babangida Bala Jatau as the Secretary
