The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, says over 1,000 insurgents have been killed over the past six weeks, in the ongoing military campaign in the North East.

The Army Chief disclosed this during a luncheon organised by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole at the Military Control and Command Centre, Maiduguri.

He explained that artillery airstrike and blockage operations conducted by troops at the Tumbuktu Triangles around Sambisa has been greatly successful.

Lieutenant-General Buratai said the troops also succeeded in dislodging major camps of the terrorists at Mungusum, Gajirin, Talala, Buk, and Malumti among others during the operation.

The Army Chief lauded President Muhammadu Buhari, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, Governors of Yobe and Borno states as well as the people of the Northeast for their unflinching support to the Nigerian army.
He also appreciated the cooperation of the Nigeria Air Force, Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Police Force for their support in the battle against insurgency.
